A Conversation for Duran Duran - the Band
Fizzabelly Started conversation Jul 1, 2007
The bands first single WASNT hold back the rain... That was written by Simon LeBon for their Bass Player John Taylor during the bands first American tour in 1981,
the first single was Planet Earth, released in the UK in Feb 1981 and reached number 12 in the UK charts.
They secured a record deal after a support slot on Hazel OConnors tour in 1980.
Who knows too much about Duran Duran than is good for any sane person.

Ummmm actually Careless Memories was released prior to Planet Earth, but wasn't terribly successful (troubling the charts at only No. 38).
It was re-released after Planet Earth and Girls on Film were hits.
I don't try to remember this stuff, it just lodges in my brain, somehow! Also, I am old enough to remember
You're spot on about Hold Back the Rain being about John and being a younger song, though - it didn't appear in publie until the Rio album, and was never released as a UK single.
