Talking Point: Why Should We Care About the Environment?
Created | Updated Nov 28, 2008
Nowadays, everyone knows that we should care about the environment. But Greenpeace was only founded in 1971 1; public awareness of conservation issues are therefore a relatively recent thing.
Now we know that we're being deliberately contentious here, but can anyone tell us:
- Why shouldn't we leave the big clean-up to future generations?
Won't the hole in the ozone layer just make the planet nice and warm?
It's been estimated that we lose one species every hour, but hasn't that been the case since life began? No-one missed the dinosaurs, did they?
Is it really worth recycling glass? Don't bottle banks just create useless bottle mountains?
The fish and reptiles in the Miami Everglades are changing sex, but does it matter?
Landfill sites. Are they a bad thing? Why?
Should all countries adopt New Zealand's anti-nuclear stance?
The North Sea is being overfished. So should we veto fish fingers?
Are genetically modified foods really any worse for you than organic produce? Why?
Do you have any environmental questions that you think should be answered? Now's your chance, ask away...
