A Conversation for Thesaurus

As an attempted writer, I often turn to the thesaurus to avoid using the same word twice in quick succession. Occasionally it does the trick, but more usually the list is so dry and boring and not-quite-there that I go back and rewrite several sentences, which is usually better anyway. What I would like, though, is a thesaurus with a lateral-thinking mode.

Hi
I wonder whether "a thesaurus with a lateral thinking mode" would be in Roget under 'Writer' (author, 718.4).

Just looking through the guide and making the odd comment here and there really. I'm into words and language, so I stumbled upon the 'Thesaurus' entry (Robert Ludlum novel?) really, and hence your note. Patience is a virtue and a strength.
