Beechworths famous "Dropbears"

Post 1

Keith Miller yes that Keith Miller

Ah yes, I well remember the days spent tooling down the Wang road leaving Yarrawonga behind in a cloud of smoke and noise in my hotted up Morry Minor Panel Van. Full to the brim with Mulwala Aussie rules footballers(Mulwala being on the NSW side of the Murray) and expectations high that we would not only wallop those damm Wangaratta mongrels but also pinch all their women and introduce them to the finer points of...err... doing it in a little wee Morry Minorsmiley - cool.

This of course never happened. Sadly they never saw the inherent finer points that a good strong lad of wheat farming stock could present when he was;A. Sober, and B. Able to talk about something else apart from the new John Deere Harvester with wide cut blades and Torque converter gear change, with multiple bearing loading points as well as air-conditioning, along with...oopssmiley - blush sorry drifted away there for a sec!

So when the inevitable happened and we all bombed out on the girl front, the talk would lead to beer and beer led to bravado and hangovers. More often than not all eyes turned to a certain forward pocket who's Mum owned a place at Beechworth that the Beechworth netballers sometime frequentedsmiley - drool.

Exit stage left and it's off to glorious Beechworth we go! Upon arrival urgent inquiries ensue as to the whereabouts of the much thought about Netballers, salacious details intruded upon thoughts of wheat, deisel and the u-beaut ute. "They will be at the pub tonight!" "Are you staying over?" "You betcha we are!"

Later that night stocked up with huge 26oz steel cans of Vitimin B and Barcardi and Coke UDL cans we ventured forth into the somewhat chilly early spring night for a bit of swimming, a bit of diving, a bit of drinking, and if we were really lucky a bit of the old..err...well you know what we triedsmiley - winkeye

This all took place at at the "Gorge!!!"smiley - rofl Boy are there some Dropbears there or what!!!!?

Did I like your entry? 'Maaaaate'...I bloody loved it! smiley - cheers

PS did you know that the Red belly is completly immune to all other snake venom and its main prey is other snakes?

smiley - laugh well ain't it a small world. I probably went to school with those netballers...

Mind you I probably got bruised more by them than the nancy boy footballers I played against when I ran around the oval for the mighty Tarra Bulldogs smiley - modsmiley - dog Reserves...smiley - rofl

Glad you enjoyed the Entry, might do some more about the area, perhaps the next project might be a little piece on Tanswells...where the beer is expensive and the girls are ugly but easy...smiley - winkeye (and some of the blokes too)
