you've never experienced terror until you've been driven round an acute bend at 40 mph by a frenchman who is steering with his knees while rolling a cigarette! in spite of the bewilderingly dangerous driving practices, one thing you can say about the french is that they tolerate the whle thing with remarkable good humour. on a related topic-i don't know if this is only southern france, but-parking seems to involve abandonment of your car anywhere. it is apparently acceptable to double park, blocking in other cars for hours at a time.
