French driving- the pedestrian's perspective

As has been pointed out on the forum, drivers no doubt drive this way to avoid being killed by the other drivers who are doing the same thing. When I was in France I was a cycliste and a piƩton. Being on a bike gave me the experience of having to dodge cars and being wreckless at junctions. Being a pedestrian gave a me a healthy fear for my own life which inspired prudence.
Very useful.
That green man though.... not to be trusted when crossing a French road. I was brought up in the UK to trust him blindly. When he's there it IS safe. Not so in France. He is to be treated with suspicion.

I have theory on why they bothered with zebra crossings in France. It is obviously not to help people cross the road.

The purpose of pedestrian crossings, in France, is to channel them all into a smaller area to make it easier to run them over.
