Web searches using Boolean Logic

Several search engines, most notably AltaVista, have advanced search capabilities where Boolean Logic can be employed for a more refined search. AltaVista recognises AND, OR and NOT as well as other advanced functions.
By using Boolean logic for specific searches you can reduce the number of returned hits and increase their relevance.
e.g. By entering;
"football (clubs or teams)" and not nfl
you will be returned with soccer-related sites rather than American football related sites.
Alternatively you could just enter soccer - but you see what I mean
