A Conversation for Lost Words

I am uncertain what is going on here. It sems that I cannot edit this article any more. I _think_ somemne has added the lost word 'gay' to this list, which is an excellent addition, and appended a banal comment to it. Perhaps I wrote this, in a weak moment, and can no longer remember doing so, which would be a mercy.

"This is a relatively recent change, causing many embarrassing (but amusing) mistakes."

Relative to what? I believe the change is as old and as young as the other changes in the list.

The reason words are in this list is that they cause embarrassing and amusing mistakes. Why pick out this one expecially?

I hope you understand what has happened now, raven. When you can no longer edit your article, this is a sign that it has graduated to the final stages of the editing and approval process. Congratulations on having your entry featured. It certainly seemed to have sparked a lot of debate. smiley - smiley

I attempted to edit this article. I fixed the trillion error, made the status of 'gay' snappier and added 'wicked' following a suggestion. Don't know if this achieved anything.

Ah. But here's the trick. You've edited your version of the article, but not the version in the official Guide. Click the link to the article at the top of this page, and you'll see what I mean.

Here's how it works. You created an entry, and could edit it all you wanted. You submitted it for the guide. Then a sub-editor got ahold of it and decided it was good. At this point, the sub-editor made a copy of your entry so he could edit it. It is this copy, not your original copy, that now appear in the guide. Since this second copy was not made by yourself, you can't edit it. Only a sub-editor can. Does that make sense?

Your original entry:

The official Guide entry:
http://www.h2g2.com/A406928

In order to make substantial changes to the official entry that shows up in the category listings and at the top of the search engine, you must resubmit your changed to the Peer Review process and start all over. You should pop over to the Peer Review page and write a post. It sould contain a list of the changes you made, and both the entry numbers.

Since this is a pain and could potentially take a while to process, I recommend collecting all the changes you'd like to make before beginning this whole process again.

Thank you for explaining this. You are right, it is a pain. I shan't bother with it.
