Does anyone know about the Shat Lughole biters?

Only explanation I can offer is the tale I heard. Apparently 2 men were fighting and one bit part, or all ( you decide) of the other chaps ear off. From then on we were all known as lughole biters!

When i was a young lad growing up in Skelmanthorpe in the 60s it was shat earole biters, And as i was led to believe involved an incident or incidents between the scisset lads and the shat lads, May be wrong of course but thats how i got it from my grandfather.
