Specialization and special people
We have been taught that "specialists" are to be fawned over as folks who have decided to pinpoint their learning and usefulness. Professional specialists are supposed to be outstanding in their fields. Unfortunately, sometimes that field was created by them and others like them (or like-minded) who really don't want to be bothered to learn how to do proper job of work. If they make their "skills" esoteric enough, then they don't have to explain themselves to "outsiders".
If a specialization becomes socially acceptable, then it gets it's own
schools, licensing procedures and even legal protection from
the meddling of disatisfied customers or intelligent people
who can not only see that the emperor has no clothes, but
that he needs a bath and a pedicure.
