One thing that should be noted is that knowledge and culture are not technically synonymous, knowledge could be facts or how to do things - the best example of this that readily comes to mind is otters treating their offspring to swim - they do not automatically know this, even though they might be physically capable of it before learning, however we would not claim this to be culture, but I believe it counts and knowledge.
I think it would be safe to believe that we are the only species to pass down knowledge that is not necessary to survive - how this equates to culture however, is a whole different kettle of otters
