A Very Civil Servant
No more paper shuffle
minor kerfuffle, egos ruffled.
No more briefings that weren't,
lessons learnt, daily bread - earnt.
No more finer points of law
political jaw, what a bore, neurones - sore.
No more coffee break when fingers ache
speech is late, get on with it for goodness sake.
No more ad hoc committee
new Chair now, she's sitting pretty.
No more Northern line in the summer time
the sweat and grime before the grind.
Dismantle the nest around his desk
all that's left from thirty years of low grade stress.
No time now for carriage clock or leaving do
solid career, but never quite made grade two.
Poor chap, heart burst - but perhaps there's worse
than retiring - feet first?
