Was "Big Spender" the one used in a TV commercial, I think for a phone company? "Hey, Big Spender, Spend a little dime with me.." 10 cents a minute or something.
If so, that would put the composer in the company of Led Zeppelin, whose music is used in Cadillac commercials ...

It is. Slightly altered lyrics, as the original is 'spend a little time with me'. It's the song of a group of dance hall hostesses, trying to attract their customers, offering them fun, laughs and a good time.
It would probably be pretty hard to find a composer who has never had any of their music used in advertising. Seeling out? Or just making the most of their talents?

I'm not knocking it, certainly if it was my music, I would take the money.
Its just that Led Zeppelin would seem more appropriate for, umm, a DeLorean ad than Cadillac. I read recently that the entire stock of DeLorean was purchased by somebody who intends to continue the company on a limited basis, so maybe it'll happen.
