A Conversation for Anosmia

Memory and Anosmia

Post 1

Shhhhh

I suffer from this affliction - after a mugging some years ago - but I still retain "memories" of smells.
I know what freshly mown grass should smell like for example, I enjoy the memory of roast beef and enjoy eating it because of the memory I think.

As I age - I wonder will I lose the smell memory? Or the joy of the food?
smiley - erm Or even all my memory smiley - winkeye

And if I do lose it - will I remember that I have lost it?

Could I descend into a dementia of smell - or will it be plain dementia?

(this stems from a visit to my mother at the weekend - who suffers from dementia).

Answers on a postcard please

Trust yousmiley - headhurts
Just because you can't smell roast beef, doesn't mean you can't taste it,you still have that sense, and you obviously enjoy the taste of it!!!
Nobody can predict what will happen in the future, and anyone who has experienced dementia in a loved one, must have a fear of it..it's a horrible illness.
More than a postcard size reply,so i'll stop theresmiley - laugh

I seem to learn more every day in here!!smiley - applause
Billy has very little sense of smell, and one of the men at his work has no sense of smell whatsoever.
I know yours was caused by something that happened to you,but i wonder if it affects more men than women??Interesting!!

Shhhhh

It's always the aftermath that is worst I think - I know the "at the time" bit is bad too - but afterwards the reality hits home
