A Conversation for Jake Thackray - the Entertainer
Jake and George Brassens
Doctor Joe Started conversation Dec 29, 2002
In 1981 at the death of George Brassens the famous (in France) singer-songwriter,Jake did a tribute programme to him on BBC2. He described George as 'head, shoulders and knees' over other contemporary song writers. It was clear that he was very knowlegeable about Georges work and his traslation of Le Gorille is well known. However his writing seems to me to be influenced in form and content by his knowledge of Brassens. In Jakes obituary in the Guardian mention is made of a much closer asociation than I have ever heard of before and says he was co-writer with Brassens. I have read several biographies of Brassens but have not come across a mention of this association.
Can anyone throw any light on this>
