I haven't studied this period of Irish history in great detail, but I can see that this is rather a biased account. The Danes hadn't "captured Dublin" - they had created it. While there had been Viking raiders a generation previously, the ones in Dublin were peaceful traders living in a part of Ireland which was not occupied by anyone else. I believe the Battle of Clontarf was not a fight to drive the Vikings out of Ireland, but a war between two Irish clans for domination of Leinster. The Danes, living only three miles away from the Battle site, were forced to go in with one side of the other, and unfortunately picked the loser.
I'll have to look into this.
