I just sent my cat, Maggie, to Luxembourg on American Airlines about 5 months ago. They DO pressurize and heat the cabin, they DON'T light it and can't get into it to feed and water your animal.
She was all drugged up, but arrived safely in Luxembourg flying direct from Chicago.
It can be done.

Actually there are places in the cargo bay of most airliners that are safe for animals, there is usually a red line that the baggage loaders should not put animals on the wrong side of or they WILL
freeze pretty much solid. Bear in mind that an average day the ambient outside temperature at 35,000 ft will be about -35*F
