I'm reminded of a remark by a favorite sociology prof, once upon a time. Said you could prove anything you wanted to with statistics, it was entirely a matter of how you limited you data base.

Iritating childlike statistical crudities: Statistical studies allowing fractional results instead of being presented in whole stoiochiometric sets. Kind of made one shudder, fractional human beings for example in some the McNamara era studies. Made one wonder which fraction of the human beings was missing.
