Kathryn Travelyan was the younger child of two, to William Travelyan, a metaphysicist for London University, and Linda Travelyan, a mathematician. A happy child, she swiftly progressed through the education system, on the heels of her sister, Phoebe.

Phoebe went on to join the US Army as a pilot, before dying in a flying accident led by Colonel Reefgirl of Stargate Command. Following this Kathryn pushed herself even harder academically, achieving her degree and masters at the same time, before going on to gain a PhD.

Further tragedy struck the family when William Travelyan, accompanied by Kathryn, flew a prototype aeroplane through test weather conditions over Greenland. The plane suffered from structural failure and crashed, killing William. Kathryn was rescued, with multiple skull fractures, a broken leg and hypothermia. Recovery was slow, yet Kathryn continued to flourish academically, becoming the youngest Fellow for the London Medical Associates and regularly having psychology articles published in The British Medical Journal.

She accepted the position as Chief Medical Officer following the death of companion, Ruth Werker. She continues to write articles for The British Medical Journal, consults for five universities across the USA, and is currently conducting research on 'Interspecial Physical Grafting and Resultant Neuropathological Effects'. She is also co-authoring an investigation on 'Juvenile Unconscious Separation Trauma And Late Onset Ontological Neurosis'.

An unfortunate accident in the line of duty resulted in Kathryn losing the use of her legs. A metal plate that had been placed over her skull following the air accident got driven into her skull, damaging several connections. Whilst her body suffered nerve damage from the waist down, her upper body continues to function well and she was able to maintain her position at the base. It is hoped that she will eventually regain the use of her legs. For now she is restricted to a wheelchair, a situation that causes much annoyance and bitterness.

In what little spare time she has, Kathryn enjoys cooking, playing computer strategy games, and holds black belts in Kenpo, Judo and Savate.

NB: Major Travelyan is known for excessive flirtation in the workplace, as well as suffering from depression and having an alcohol dependency as a result of this.
