EG versus UG - The Fight of the Century!
The UnderGuide's editors consciously acknowledge the fact that the UG is the jelly to the Edited Guide's peanut butter, upon this great slice of bread we call h2g21. Anyone who has made a proper peanut butter and jelly sandwich will tell you it's best to keep the jelly piece and the peanut butter piece separate until you put them together. In keeping with the metaphor, we cannot expect the UG or EG to be finished within our natural or cyber-lifetimes.
Therefore, we must keep the traditional values of the EG as far away from the UG as possible. Some things we don't want in the UG that are part of the EG include-
Changing Australian/Canadian/American/whatever English to British English before inclusion in the UnderGuide. Whatever way you communicate that's comprehensible to the audience is fine to us.
Taking yourself and the Guide too seriously. Leave your notebooks, pens and newly dry-cleaned coats at the Mine entrance, and pick up your rubber canary, oversized peanut and personnel ID with a silly name on it. We don't like to take ourselves too seriously. You're free to make jokes or silly observations on the offsite forum. It would be rather boring if people didn't.
When you're too busy, scared or tired of it, keep your badge. The scouts and subs ask you to turn in your badge and get the hell off the Mailing List when you resign. When youn resign from the miners, you may keep your badge if you so choose, as a sign of honor for the time you spent with the miners. You may also stay subscribed to the offsite Yahoo forum if you promise not to leak anything to the media.
