A Conversation for Queen - Birth of a Rock Legend
Fat Bottomed Girls and mind control.

My friend Pick moved into my house when a room was vacated. He brought with him his relatively kick ass stereo and set it up in my living room. A few seconds after we turned it on, one channel went out, then the other. Pick is the kind of guy that knows you can't put a round peg in a square hole, but is sure you can put the square peg in the round hole if you push real hard. As evidenced by the fact that you can put a grounded plug in a switching outlet if you break the ground off. I got it connected correctly (and safely) and it sounded sweet, and I wanted Pick to notice.
So I pulled out Queen's 'Jazz' for a little Fat Bottomed Girls. The full spectrum of guitar/bass/drums and barbershop harmony was like a rock and roll tidal wave to me when I was a kid. Its the song I got busted playing air-drums to when my dad walked in on my rock and roll fantasy. (I had the whole 40 piece kit a la Roger Taylor replicated with pillows.) Perhaps that song more than any other had the ability to make me want to turn it up. Sometimes right in the middle of conversations in the car it would come on the radio, all conversation would stop, and the air-drums would start. Passengers in the car were often obliged to play air-drums, or guitar, or sing (since they were abruptly relieved of their recent conversing duties.)
Pick is not a rock aficionado, but appreciates the music that has grown mostly out of what rock was. So I knew it was only a matter of time after I put FBG on his stereo at a moderate volume that it would force its will upon him. He did not disappoint. Rather, the windows were rattled before the first chorus and the whole house was swept away by Queen's rock tsunami and Pick and I grabbed some splintered lumber and played drums on the air.
