short story versus long story

I will say that it takes more

effort for me to write a long book than a short story...

I've never written a screenplay, but I have scribbled a few half-hour scripts and they are a bitch. I would guess that an hour and a half might be easier... but without any experiential basis. A treatment, on the other hand, based on a pre-existing novel or short story or just even an idea, now that would truly suck.
