This is a excellent idea! If the Internet can bring about the age of amazon.com, then it can be used to help out the little guy struggling to serve his or her neighborhood, too.
Does anyone intend to index these entries? Buy region or category? I think this idea is worth some organizational effort. And I'm willing to help with the grunt work.
OK, here's my entry: in the Washington, DC area, in Arlington, VA, there is an excellent little grocery. It has European cheeses, Portuguese bread, an fabulous plethora of chilies and spices, and it's reasonably priced. I'm a vegetarian, but I've noticed that they also have an amazingly wide variety of meats, including rabbit and squid! And the variety of oil cured olives alone is worth the drive.
It's called the Euro-Latino Grocery at 2701 N. Pershing Dr., Arlington, VA. Open till 8PM every evening except Sundays, until 1PM.
