What would be the name for a word that has such common usage that it becomes a generic word for an item.
e.g Jeep, Hoover, Xerox, Coke etc
and can you think of any more examples?

Proprietary... and for more, look in the yellow pages - its full of them! Stereos, TV's, PC's etc

TV isn't a generic brand name, yellow pages I suppose could be at a push. PC is.
Walkman is another example though, as is post-it. Vaseline anyone?

Big Cheese, I meant *types* of TV, Stereos etc....
Proprietary names like Sony, Philips, etc
