Rock Drumming

Somwhere I have a book with the key drum parts for a lot of classic rock songs, pretty interesting how those can be so distinctive. As a guitar player, I used to have the opinion that rock drumming was pretty much all the same - note: I said "used to have". Most entries are just a handful of measures, enough to get the idea. But the book has some complete solos, like by Neil Peart ("Tom Sawyer"?) that the author said should be appreciated by the reader (since he apparently spent a significant chunk of his career working it out ...) smiley - online2long

Yes, I enjoyed the movie "Drumline" with a lot of very interesting performances by college marching bands with large drum sections. Of course, most rock bands have only one drummer, as did my band of aging baby boomers some years ago. In that band, the term "synchronized" was sort of relative. We were trying to be a "good" band as defined by Dave Barry: "A band that is usually all playing the same song at the same time."
