Where is the restroom? This can be quite possibly the most useful phrase when travelling in lands where you do not speak the language of the indigenous people.

'Nar3 you3 ce4 suo3' or 'Ce4 suo3 zai4 nar3' should do it. If it doesn't work the first time, look frantic and jump up and down. They'll get the idea.

The Chinese character for "Ladies" looks somewhat like a deckchair and the "Gents" is a bit like a spider holding a flyswat.
