I have the priviledge of living in the middle of a dry tropical forest reserve near Guayaquil, Ecuador. The reserve harbors six species of felines, including the jaguarundi. Of all the reserve's cats, this is the species I see the most, usually running across a reserve access road, but I have also seen one try and stalk a tinamou for about 10 minutes. I have also raised a kitten that was brought into to our wildlife rescue center, which wouldn't meow but growl when threatened and when not, would chirp like a bird. This animal has a pronounced flattened head, unlike any of the other local feline species.
