Please note that there are now flights direct to Galway from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and London Luton airports, not to mention (why not? Oh, go on then) Lorient in Brittany.

I used the Manchester-Galway link once already this year and we're booked to go again in a few weeks time. The airline is AerArran and our experience was very good, flights booked easily online, price very reasonable, left on time and arrived early going out and coming home 
I recommend earplugs though - those little 50-seater prop planes are very noisy!
