Walkway lights

Good posting, DE - brings back many memories

(Don't forget the elegant lake that was supposedly not part of the original plans, but was built to provide a secure source of water for firefighting, given hilltop situation of the campus)

Does the central walkway (the side nearest the lake) still have fluorescent lights above it that have the habit of turning off if you walk under them while in a particularly bad mood? (such as when you ask the personnel office why your pay cheque hasn't arrived, and they inform you that your research grant actually ran out a month ago, but they didn't bother mentioning it at the time, or sending you your P45) smiley - sadface

Actually, there was a similar design problem at Imperial College to the library one you mention - the story goes that the Civil Engineering department designed the single-storey sports building in Prince's Gardens, South Kensington (where land isn't exactly cheap or easy to come by), intending to build a hall of residence above it at a later date. The only problem was that when making calculations for the foundations, someone forgot to allow for the weight of water in the swimming pool... smiley - smiley

The new library is one hell of a lot better than the old thing that was there back in my day!

Oh, and I'm glad it's not just me having that experience with the lights... I was getting paranoid back in the late 1980s!

Do you remember the old gravel pits that used to inhabit the parade? Thankfully, they've now all been replaced with a nice smooth surface.

Small nitpick: the county of Avon hasn't existed for many years (not since 1996, IIRC).
