Pests in any form, flies are amongst the least popular residents on this planet. Never more unpopular than when they insist on darting into open eyes and mouths, resulting in a less than appetising Hors D'oeuvre.

In fact, one wandering minstrel was so inspired by this event happening to his mother that he made a song about it, entitled, 'There was an old woman who swallowed a fly; I don't know why she swallowed a fly; I guess she'll die.'

One gentleman, upon swallowing a fly decided to quickly swallow a draught of insecticide to insure that the creature would be unable to reproduce within his stomach. Unfortunately his sudden death prevented anyone assessing the effectiveness of this control measure.
