budha is a the tenth reincarnation of lord vishnu varanasi is mentioned in mahabhrata an ancient hindu epic and when time started to flow shiva and parvati his consort waited in kashi this place is of great importance both for budhists and hindus

Buddha is not the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, but the 9th one. The 10th will be Kalki.
It goes as:
1. Matsya (Fish)
2. Kurma (Turtle)
3. Varaha (Boar)
4. Narasimha (Man-Lion)
5. Vamana (Dwarf)
6. Parashurama
7. Rama
8. Krishna
9. Buddha
10. Kalki
