While I am not as familiar with various aspects of UK life and culture (I'm from the USA), I do believe that the most famous user of a Lotus 7 was Patrick McGoohan (Number 6 in "The Prisoner"). In the intro to (nearly) every episode, he was driving a Lotus 7. In fact, in "Many Happy Returns", he states about his Lotus 7, "I know evry nut and bolt and cog. I built it with my own hands."
Quite a recommendation...
