I'm fascinated by the construction of timepieces and used to watch my grandfather mending clocks. The best way to understand a thing is to make one, and I set about making wooden clocks. The plans came from a small American company and the clock went well. I then photoreduced the design to half size and built my second clock. Both are available as e-mail attachments if needed. My third attempt is even smaller and requires more effort, especially with the use of wood. Harison's attempts to build a timepiece are all the more readily understood when you try yourself. Go on, it can be fun!
