... been held hostage by the opposing team?
"In 1973 the Texas A&M Aggies took exception to a performance of [Rice University's] MOB [Marching Owl Band] and formed an angry mob outside Rice's own stadium, trapping the Owl band inside for hours until police dispersed some of the crowd and allowed the band to exit, transported by food service trucks."

Thank you. Are you an Owl?
To the best of my knowledge, no. Over the years, the MLJ band has had a very few unpleasant incidents instigated by drunken fans of the opposing team, but none involving transportation by food service trucks.

Yes, my wife & I are both Rice alums. The MOB has a tendency to really irritate folks:

I recall it started when the MOB played "Raindrops Are Falling On My Head" during a period of roof leakage in the Astrodome. I think the final straw for the Astrodome brass was a comment about the Astros being "first in our hearts and last in the National League". The MOB kept "marching", but the announcer was silenced.
Rice fans aren't much more diplomatic. Rice has never been an athletic powerhouse, routinely getting stomped by Univ. of Texas, etc. Except for baseball recently, at which Texas also excels. Rice won the College World Series in Omaha some years ago, with Texas losing in the regionals. Fans had a sign for the TV cameras in Omaha reading "How's the Weather in Austin?" A few years later, again in Omaha, fans wore T-shirts reading, "Rice Owls, National Champs 2002. I wasn't there and neither was Texas!"
