I once had a little book about weird and wonderful laws (many still active) in the UK. I remember there was one story in it about I think his name was Earl Ferrers - he was mad, shot his steward and was tried before his Peers. His peers being peers they were the House of Lords. I think he was hung in the end.

No... he was wasn't, meat gets hung, those executed by hanging get hanged. Subtle difference I know, but a fairly important one nevertheless.

I mean, would you believe it, if you beat your carpet in the street before 6am then you get the status of a rogue and a vagabond, and it counts as a real criminal record. I am sooooo getting that when I'm older......
