Santa Poem by OLIVIAASHMORE
A whole years waiting, here at last,
But it goes so quick, all so fast,
Unable to sleep as I wait for him,
Outside and all is dim.
With his long white beard and jolly laugh,
We strain to hear him come up our path,
Waiting for the quietest jingle of bells,
We can only wait while time tells.
Leaving carrots and mince pies the night before,
Surely the anticipation is against the law,
Slowly drifting off to sleep,
Trying so hard to get a peep.
Woken by the distance snores,
Praying for no creaks from the doors,
Tiptoeing down the stairs,
He's still down there but 'wow' who cares.
Checking his list,
For the bad and good,
On the good list I should be,
Really thought that I would.
I've been good all year,
At least I've tried,
Tears been shed,
While mum just sighed.
He's here right in front of me,
I'm staring up with awe,
He seems so gentle, ever so nice,
The most exciting thing I've ever saw.
Long white beard,
Big blue eyes,
Bulging belly,
From all those pies.
Jolly laugh,
Rosy cheeks,
Strong black boots,
With sooty streaks.
Jingling bells,
Glimmering sleigh,
Rudolph outside,
Nearly Christmas Day.
Stifling a yawn,
As he lays out the toys,
Asleep I am,
Without the slightest noise.
