I'm looking for downloadable, comprehensive maps of the night sky, N and S hemispheres. Anybody got any links?

You may have tried this, but I think bbc.co.uk has some on it's sci-tech pages. It certainly has a "what's-happening-this-month" bit, which is very useful...

Hope that helps, if not, sorry!

Yes - http://www.heavens-above.com, or http://www.fourmilab.ch have good maps also, although I think this poster has elvised (left the building). Another thing to use is a cheap astronomy software package like Redshift.
