A Conversation for Tortilla Surprise

A money-saving idea from a friend that I've used for years:
Buy corn (not flour) tortillas and bake them in the oven until crisp, maybe 5 minutes - watch them closely until you get the correct time in your oven, they'll turn black pretty fast if you go too long. Then eat them as chips with salsa, picante sauce, etc. they taste great and are a LOT cheaper than commercial tortilla chips. Fairly low fat, too, about 10% of the calories.

My wife tells me its more like 8 minutes at 400 deg. F, but watch carefully, at least for the first few batches - in your oven, 8 minutes might be charcoal. She puts them right on the oven rack, in two levels.
