I gather that London has black cabs. My big yellow taxi is being airlifted from from Joni Mitchell's old neighbourhood in Yorkville, Turranna.

As to the addition of a Canadian spur: I see your concern about calculating transit time. However, if you factor in Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, then everything will be just fine. Uncertain, but fine. Forgive me, but I must feed Schrodinger's Cat (or at least the half which survived when I opened the black box).smiley - smiley

Just to keep this post on topic, I am glad to see things about First Nations appearing on a European board. The folk over there on the Beeb Religion and Ethics board seem to have lumped First Nations spiritual practice under some pretty broad (and questionable) categories. Ani.

Apologising for ignorance in advance: Has anyone from the First Nations ever stood for mainstream political office and been elected?
Do any of the Canadian political parties have a higher proportion of First Nation members or supporters than the others?

I believe so, but don't have my sources with me at present. These are things which would be good to research and add to the guide. anhaga and mud seem to be very interested and knowledgeable in this area. You might want to check them out on my list of friends at my space. Ani.

First part of the question: Yes, many. At all levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal.) This link provides a very short list: http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/ks/3100_e.html

Second part: I'm not sure that any party has a particular advantage in that area.

It should probably be mentioned that, in a very real sense, First Nations politics is certainly part of mainstream Canadian politics.

Thanks for the reply. In the UK we have a growing mix of politicians. they are represented in all parties too but I wouldn't say with equality. What is the balance between male and female politicians in Canada. Herre there was a tremendous leaning towards men but the Labour Party had all women shortlists a few years back and there was a surge in women in parliament. It was outlawed as being discriminatory but the job had been done in showing that women could be as effective politicians as men. Or more effective in many cases!
