I mean that the forum for patio furnature appears to be empty, even though the list on the left says that latest post was fifteen hours ago. What's up?

The idea is to have something to sit on that doesn't need steam cleaning every time you use it.I prefer bamboo, rattan, banana wood or something harder from a sustainable forest - whichever is the local industry. So at present I have woven cane spray painted with biodegradable green paint. I sit on it at midnight and watch the world go buy. The amount of rain we've had lately means it will probably bio-degrade this summer, but at the moment the gardenia is flowering so it's a wonderful experience.Sigh..

I know a guy who makes patio and garden furniture out of green wood. He weaves the furniture around a frame. The great thing about this is if you put the stuff so it's legs are in the ground, it roots and starts sprouting leaves.
Now that's biodegradeable.

That sounds wonderful. I'll start saving for the next time I have more than two square yards of concrete

You could put the legs in planters.

My neighbours already think I'm doolally. The two square yards give directly onto a "ladder street" - a flight of steps with landings and I don't think anyone previous to me has actually used them for sitting on, but I meet some very interesting people this way.

Sitting on steps is definitly a pastime of mine. I like to sit on the stoops of shops in my town. If I stay long enough, I will eventually see a lot of people that I know, and sometimes meet new ones.
