Well you have a little more excitement in your history than my home town. We had a hand full of setlers killed by some disgruntled Maori (NZ Natives) in the mid 1800s which was called the Wairau Massacre (later renamed the Wairau Incident for PC purposes I suspect). However, we did not put up a giant cross! What is with these giant crosses? I am with Bill Hicks (a very funny and very dead US comedian) on this one. If there was a Jesus and he was planning to return to earth some time do you really think he would want to see another cross? I suspect he would take one look at the profussion of crosses and think we were well prepared to nail him to another one. Its probably why we continue to wait for the oft promised second comming.

LOL!
I've often thought the same thing. But it does make for one heck of a landmark, especially at night!
