A Conversation for The Chernobyl Disaster

Nuclear power produces GHG's

Post 1

The enrichment of Uranium produces significant amounts of CO2, as well as many other processes used throughout the system of nuclear power generation. While not as high perhaps as coal generation, nuclear generation is by no means a good technology to address climate change.

Decommissioning a power facility is so time consuming, dangerous, and expensive that it is extremely likely that any economic arguments for nuclear power generation become pointless. It can take up to 20 years of work - after the facility is no longer producing power - to fully decomission a facility, and even then long term storage of nuclear wastes must be addressed, a problem which has not been solved to date.
