How does the calendar distinguish between years before and after the republic? For example, how would one refer to the year Sept 1791 - Sept 1792?
'Year I before the rebublic'/'Année I avant la république', perhaps?
I would be grateful for an answer, as it means that I can provide quite a good reference to this entry in my entry on the 'Common Era' (A2972405) in Peer Review.

Hi,
I'm afraid I don't have an easy answer to that one... off the top of my head I'd say they might have referred to the year xxxx of the Ancien Regime, but that's a pure guess.
I don't recall seeing the question mentioned in any of the stuff that I read when researching the article, or at any other time. sorry bout that.
