Iron Maiden had a clash with the Tories, about the covers of certain singles...
In 1980, Maiden released Sanctuary. It depicts their mascot, the zombie called Eddie, standing over the corpse of Thatcher, holding a bloodied knife. She has a shredded Iron Maiden poster in her hands.
This was, of course, in the best sense. Maiden wanted to tell the world that they were one thing, and the other Iron Maiden was completely unrelated! Well, nearly...
In '81, Maiden released Women In Uniform. In this cover, Eddie has got a nurse and a schoolgirl in his arms, with Maggie standing behind a corner with an AK-47. Dubbed 'Maggie's revenge'.
Women In Uniform isn't on any albums, you can download it as an MP3 but if you see the single on sale anywhere then BUY IT cos it must be worth a fortune by now!

It's a very small consolation to weigh against the immeasurable damage she did to so many lives - but Thatcher did inspire some great hate songs. The Beat's "Stand Down Margaret" comes to mind, as does Morrissey's "Margaret On The Guillotine". My favourite, though, has to be Elvis Costello's "Tramp The Dirt Down", in which he fantasises about her funeral: "When they finally put you in the ground/I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down".

Not to mention the entire alternative comedy scene - the same bleak urban reality haunting Brit music in the 80's is the same kind dripping off the wall's of The Young Ones' student flat.

A great dynasty of comedy came to an end with the election of the Labour.
Ok, *two* great dynasties of comedy
