Interesting article.
I was under the impression that cuckoos laid their eggs only in the nests of those birds that would provide their young with a suitable diet. I thought cuckoos ate caterpillars, insects, spiders, worms etc but not seeds so the nests of seed-eating birds just wouldn't do.
Also, the eggs of the hedge sparrow cuckoo don't resemble hedge sparrow eggs very much at all.
