Giant hogweed used to grow extensively on my parents' front drive in the late 70s and early 80s. As a child a spent a whole day with my next door neighbour chopping it down and making musical instruments with the hollow stems! My friend was very ill afterwards and covered in a rash whilst I suffered no ill effects whatsoever, very strange. Stranger still after several years of rampant growth (at times covering 10 to 15 square metres) it just died out.

'you must wash it off immediately with soap and water while avoiding direct sunlight'
Well, it's hardly going to be a hazard in Britain this year, is it?

It sounded a bit like a didgeridoo! The thing I don't understand was that I had the sap in my mouth (can't really remember what it tasted like...) and all over my face and I was unaffected...
