Project Description
Germany has had a profound impact on our knowledge and understanding of chemistry and the application of the chemical sciences. For example, every student of chemistry will be aware of the contribution of Fritz Haber, and the impact the Haber Process for production of ammonia has had on the agricultural sciences. (However, as he is 20th Century, he is not included in this Project). Even lay people will know the name of Robert Bunsen, and he is included in this Project; and may even know of Justus von Liebig for the eponymous Liebig Condenser.
This project aims to include the biographies and achievements of 8 German chemists, focussing on the 19th Century, as this was when there was veritable explosion in knowledge, particularly in the field of organic chemistry:
