Whoops, I didn't see there was a second page. I was replying to the last post on the first page. Well, there's some more, anyway.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 2, 2007
As a strong atheist myself, I'm very impressed by this entry.
My only concern with it is the footnote:
"At least the bunnies aren't associated with a multi-national carbonated drinks corporation."
This lends credence to the myth that Santa Claus was invented by a certain drinks company, when we all know this is not true.
I saw a wonderful painting of a saint wearing a red Santa hat in the National Gallery of Ireland last week. It dates from the 15th Century.

Yes, it's not true that they invented him, but it is still true that he is associated with the sale of certain beverages, which he is shown handing lovingly to young and old alike during the festive period. I've reworded the footnote
I've also added Billy Joel and added another misconception to the list.

We were watching a documentary about the devastation wreaked on New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. There were shots of wrecked houses, flooded fields, overturned cars. One of the rescue workers commented: "if you want a coca cola, you have to go thirty miles up the road".

Good stuff.
Not sure if you want further comments or if this is off to one side for the purpose of this entry.
1 issue I think should be touched on, if only briefly, is that there are those who object to the term 'atheist' as it defines them in terms of something they are not. Or something they don;t believe in. Just to add to the variety of non believers!
Secondly, on the bits about questioning and searching for answers, is it worth mentioning Jesuit teaching which encourages questioning and exploration of all subjects?

I think the Eds want to know if this is finished, but I'm quite happy to consider further comments.
I think it's a little bit confusing to add that some atheists don't like being called atheists, although I must admit I once answered a questionnaire once with 'not even an atheist'. As for the Jesuits - they're not the sort of open-minded that means they are allowed to be truely atheist, so I don't think they really merit a mention here.

as a wandering pagan, I think this is a very good and informative entry and well deserving of its place in the EG.
