Also of interest in the area is the beautiful Minnewaska State Park, in which you will find the beatiful turquoise lake Minnewaska, a shimmering quartz cliff face, and plenty of hiking trails. The park is located minutes from the Mohonk Mountain House, on state route 44-55.

It is necessary, I feel, to mention that the Mountain House is rumored to be the inspiration for the Overlook hotel in Stephen King's "The Shining". The T.V. Mini-series version was even filmed there. It is also rumored that the Mountain House has an illustrious and maligned past similar to that of the Overlook. (Although at the time of this entry, the only person I've found to confirm these rumors is a local taxi driver known only to me as "Lucky", who also claimed to know the Beatles before they were famous, and he himself is rumored to disappear for long periods of time, only to return dishevelled and disoriented. I have not, however, found any evidence to contradict these rumors,(about the Mountain House) either..)
