A Conversation for The Expulsion of the Acadians
Cajuns in Texas
Steve K. Started conversation May 31, 2004
Here in Houston, Texas, Cajun food and music and people are very much appreciated.
On the music, I saw the link to Andy Kershaw, and while I don't recognize the first name, I suspect a connection to Doug Kershaw, a Cajun fiddler whose (vinyl!) albums I own and love.
On the food, well, where do I start, its all good There must be hundreds of Cajun restaurants in Southeast Texas, and I don't recall a bad one. Although none are quite as good as one I visited near the Destrahan-Luling Ferry (on the Mississippi River north of New Orleans) once, many years ago. My (Belgian-Lithuanian American) wife even tries her hand at Cajun gumbo, which I think is great, but a friend says okra-style is not his style of gumbo ... I tried his, I'll go with the okra.
From a selfish perspective, I'm glad a lot of the Cajuns ended up on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
